What we do know is that there are some things that guys typically like and girls do not, and vice versa. There is always the exception to the rule, but frankly, some stereotypes about gender preferences just tend to be true. One area that this is most noticeable in is television viewing habits. Generally speaking, there are shows that appeal to men, and shows that appeal to women. Traditionally, television shows vhave been more geared to female audiences, as advertisers recognize women being more likely to go out on buy products that they see on tv. However, if you look at the most popular shows currently on satellite tv, it seems that men have quickly become an important audience as well.
While they certainly attract a female audience as well, some of the best shows on television today are geared for guys. They are pulling record numbers of male viewers and are quickly showing that men are an important television audience as well. Here are some favorites that keep the guys glued to their HD tvs each and every week:
-Californication (Showtime) This witty comedy stars David Duchovny as Hank Moody, a writer going through a perpetual midlife crisis. As a New York transplant living in Los Angeles, we see Hank try and grapple with his new surroundings, his sullen teenage daughter, and his ex girlfriend that he can't get over. While he certainly has a sensitive side, Hank is a guy's guy, who likes to drink, smoke and chase beautiful women.
-Entourage (HBO) While it is hardly new to the airwaves, Entourage is the epitome of a guy show. It follows the lives of a Hollywood leading man and his childhood friends that followed him to the West Coast. The boys lead the good life, residing in giant houses, with infinity pools and flat screen high definition televisions. Their antics are hilarious, showing what happens when a group of troublemaker kids hit it big in La La Land.
-Mad Men (AMC) This show about ad executives in the 1950's isn't just a favorite of guys; it's a favorite of critics as well. The leading man is Don Draper, a high powered executive who drinks and smokes in his office, has illicit affairs with secretaries and generally epitomizes a good old fashioned playboy. To put it simply: men want to be him, and women want to be with him.
-Eastbound & Down (HBO) This dark comedy is about a washed up sports star who returns to his hometown to teach physical education. He is inappropriate and crude, and spends most of his spare time drinking, doing drugs and chasing women. What more could you want in a guy show?
