Apple Flower Wreath
- Make a Christmas wreath out of dried apples, flowers and a heart-shaped wire frame. You'll also need some lemon juice, allspice, cloves, orris root, salt and ribbons. Mix the salt and lemon juice in a bowl. Slice each apple into round thin slices after you have peeled and cored it. Soak the apples in the lemon juice. Mix spices together, and then roll apples in mixture. Dry the apples using the microwave or oven. Straighten out the wire ends of the frame. Fold the cooled apples in half twice, and then insert the wire frame through the center of the apples. Bend the ends back once you're done. Add dried flowers and ribbon for color.
- Gather some scissors, glue, toothpicks, bay leaves, a bowl, glitter, flowers and apples to make a table centerpiece. Make the flowers by sticking a toothpick through your dried apple slices. You'll want to stick a toothpick through one of the rolled up apple slices, then add apples slices to each side of the slice in the middle. Push your apples slices together, and then add glue to secure the slices together. In the opposite direction, stick a toothpick through the bottom of the apple slices. Add two slices to the sides again. Keep alternating until you have a full flower. Glue bay leaves or flowers onto the apple flower you have made, sprinkle some glitter and your centerpiece is done.
- Potpourri made from dried apples and fruit can add the sweet smell to your home. You'll need one small apple, dried carnation flower petals, a cinnamon stick broken into pieces, nutmeg, whole clove, vanilla fragrance oil from a craft store and a grated orange peel. Unpeel and slice the apples. Bake the apples on a baking sheet for 30 minutes. Once dried, sprinkle the apples with cinnamon. Cool for 10 minutes. Combine all the other ingredients and apples together in a lidded glass jar. Cover the lid, and you now have a jar of potpourri that will last for months.
- Other simple crafts using flowers and dried apples are bookmarks. Simply core and peel the apples, and then slice each apple into thin slices. Bake the apples. Once the apples are dry, take an apple and place it on a sheet of paper. Next place a flower by the apple. Add glitter, stickers or draw pictures next to or underneath the apples and flowers. Once you have the design you are satisfied with, laminate the flowers and paper together. You can write a message on the bookmark before you laminate it if you would like. Pass the bookmarks out to your class, or to the members of your book club.
