How Do I Get to the Number One O2 Sensor on a 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette?

    • 1). Park the car on a level surface, set the parking brake and shut off the engine. Let the engine and exhaust system cool completely before proceeding.

    • 2). Set a wheel chock on each side of one of the vehicle's rear tires. Lift up the front end of the vehicle, but not off the ground. This will allow easier access to the vehicle underside.

    • 3). Slide underneath the vehicle on the passenger side, underneath the front seating area. Locate the exhaust pipe and the catalytic converter.

    • 4). Look at the exhaust pipe on either side of the catalytic converter. The number one (upstream) sensor is threaded into the exhaust pipe between the engine and the converter. The sensor protrudes from the exhaust pipe and has an electrical wire coming off its top that goes to a connector on the vehicle a short distance away. The O2 sensor is the only component mounted into the exhaust pipe in this area of the vehicle.
