How to Choose Your Own Right of Passage

A RIGHT OF PASSAGE is often a feat performed by a male or a female that pushes them into adulthood.
It might be something as gruesome as killing an animal and drinking it's blood.
It might be something as dangerous as crossing a fast-flowing river.
It might be something as complicated as gaining a degree.
It might be something as simple as getting married.
It might be something as stupid as a sex tape.
A RIGHT OF PASSAGE is steeped in tradition, upheld by the past, clinging on to the old way.
Tradition, the past, the old way, are all very bad ideas for doing something today.
Most RIGHTS OF PASSAGE are based on pleasing others, on fulfilling the goals of others, on satisfying the dreams of others...
either because they did it too (which means you are just a copycat) or because they want you to do something they didn't or couldn't do (which means you are a puppet).
We will all go through experiences that shape who we are...
We will all endure hardships that determine how we feel...
We will all confront situations that allow us to grow...
But each of these should be of our individual making - not designed for us by someone else, not pushed on us by our elders, not forced on us by society.
A RIGHT OF PASSAGE should never be someone else's idea.
A RIGHT OF PASSAGE should be of our own making or choosing.
A RIGHT OF PASSAGE should always be an individual experience.
Do not follow the footsteps of your Father because you are too weak to set your own path.
Do not follow the mistakes of your Mother because you are too desperate to please.
Do not follow the illogical ideals of your religion because you are making up excuses.
Do not follow the stupidity of your society because you are too afraid to be different.
A RIGHT OF PASSAGE should make you an individual - not a number.
A RIGHT OF PASSAGE should help you become independent.
A RIGHT OF PASSAGE should only ever be your RIGHT OF PASSAGE.
Stand out from the crowd.
Make up your own RIGHT OF PASSAGE.
