La Tambouille, by restaurateur Giancarlo Bolla, has gathered a steady following since its opening in 1971. The elegant restaurant in Itaim, one of São Paulo's wealthiest districts, serves Italo-French cuisine.
Among some of the most requested dishes presented by executive chef Augusto Piras are grilled filet mignon wrapped in Italian ham, served with Italian red wine sauce and saffron risotto; sea bass in white wine served with codfish and asparagus risotto; and spaghetti di grano duro tuttomare.
One of the best desserts is the tiramisú with touches of Kahlua; the wine list includes labels from several continents.
The ambience, among the best in town for romantic dining, has recently been updated with the transformation of one of its areas into a gazebo evoking an Italian villa. Designed by famous architect Ugo di Pace, also responsible for the original project, the gazebo is filled with natural light and perfect for an elegant lunch.
At dinnertime, the restaurant has a piano bar. Chef Bolla's feijoada, served on Saturday lunch as a buffet since the early 1990s, is one of the most famous in town.
Giancarlo Bolla is also responsible for the cuisine of the Leopolldo Group, which includes Bar des Arts Itaim and Leopolldo in Itaim and Jardins.
