How do I Rank Police Departments by Number of Personnel?

    • 1). Find out the number of personnel in the police department. As police departments are usually publicly funded, this information should be publicly available. Try searching the police department website, calling the police department's nonemergency number or calling City Hall and asking for the information. For example, the Cranston, R.I., police department has 152 members.

    • 2). Place the name of the police department with the highest number at the top of your paper.

    • 3). Choose the police department with the next highest number on your list and place that in second place on your list. Continue ranking the police departments in order of size, finishing with the smallest police department.
