Crockpot Stew Recipes

Ingredients
  • 2 slices dry bread
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 large clove garlic, minced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 cups diced carrots
  • 2 cups diced potatoes
  • 2 cups diced turnip or rutabaga
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups biscuit mix
  • 2/3 cup milk


Preparation

Tear bread into pieces and soak in 1/2 cup hot water for 5 minutes. Add garlic, beef, pepper, and 1 teaspoon of the salt. Mix well and shape into 8 small patties. Brown patties in a heavy Dutch oven

Add beef broth to the hamburger patties.

Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add vegetables and  cook for 15 minutes.  Taste and season with salt and pepper, as needed

Combine the biscuit mix and milk; stir to form a dough.

Drop dumpling batter by teaspoonfuls onto simmering hamburger stew.  Cook, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Cover and cook for 10 minutes longer.

Serves 4.
