You will be amazed at how many people focus on the look and feel and forget about the basics.
Basic 1 Keep it simple.
This is one of the fundamentals of web design and building a site that people will want to come back to over and over again.
If it's simple chances are that it's easy to get to the information that you as a visitor want.
Don't hide the information make it easy to get to and the visitors will keep coming.
Basic 2 Understand about keywords.
Keywords are important since they are the thing that search engines - like Google - use to figure out what your site is about.
The algorithms the webcrawlers use focus (amongst other things) on what words appear on your site.
So make sure the right number appear and in the right places.
Basic 3 Make sure your web design includes plenty of branding.
Get a header designed for the top of the site that makes it clear to the visitor who you are.
If you do nothing else put in big clear letters the name of the site across the top of every page.
Basic 4 The top left hand corner is really important.
The top left hand corner of you web page should figure high in your web design.
It is arguably the most viewed area of the website.
So get your branding right and get it in the top left hand corner as part of the design.
Basic 5 Use a simple clear font.
Use a black or dark font on a white background for most of the text that will be read.
It has the highest contrast and so is the easiest to read.
Make it easy for you visitor! Use these five basics and check your site includes and make use of them.
Don't be convinced that fancy stuff is what you need.
Think of your visitors.
