How to Prepare a New Wood Window for Interior Painting
- 1). Dust the window frame and sill, using a coarse plastic brush. Eliminate unseen sawdust by wiping the new wood with sticky tack cloths.
- 2). Protect the portions of the wall immediately adjacent to the window frame by covering them with professional painter's tape. Do not cover the window glass with tape.
- 3). Apply latex primer to the new wood, using a 2- to 3-inch synthetic polyester paintbrush. Apply only a light coat to prevent drips and runs. Brush along with the wood grain, being careful to smooth runs and drips as they appear. Wait two hours for the primer to dry before applying semi-gloss or gloss latex paint in the same manner.
