How to Handle Negative Feedback

There are two kinds of feedback: good and bad.
Of course, you want to have the good, but that isn't always the case all the time.
Sometimes you also hear negative feedback, which is scary since a lot don't know how to manage it quite well.
Before you know it, they have already fallen into deep depression and a feeling of rejection.
There are ways on how to handle negative feedback a lot better.
You can start with the following tips: Know where the feedback is coming from.
Does it come from a friend or a boss? Does it come from a stranger? Some people are just there to inflict harm from you.
If you have inkling that their motivation for criticizing you is to make you feel bad, then it only means one thing: ignore it.
You can hear much better advice and feedback from those who truly care about you.
You will also less likely feel bad since you know they really don't mean harm to you.
Don't react immediately.
Usually the first instinct when you hear a bad feedback is to react immediately.
You become defensive.
That should not be the case.
Allow yourself to process the criticism.
Perhaps there's nothing to feel really bad after all, or perhaps it's something you can just completely ignore.
A good trick is to count 10 before you say something.
Often the moment you say 10, you have a feeling there's not much to say about it.
Be more open to it.
Learn to accept the fact that you will definitely be criticized and sometimes in a harsh way.
The more you become more open to them the more it's easier for you to deal with them.
Assess the criticism.
There are three criteria you need to remember when you're being criticized: fairness, motivation, and effectiveness.
If the feedback can make you a better person, then by all means embrace it.
If it doesn't do you good and upon your assessment it's completely baseless and difficult to validate, then drop it.
Practice subliminal messages.
When you're criticized, you can feel your self-confidence dropping low.
You can use subliminal messages to help you pull your confidence up again.
You can say the following subliminal messages every day: I won't let the negative feedback to control me.
I am still in control over my actions.
I am thankful for all the lessons learned.
I have the capacity to change my negative behavior.
As you keep these subliminal messages in mind, you will feel a change in your thinking, becoming more open, aware, and accepting to the negative feedback.
Say thank you.
Yes, it's the least thing you're going to say to someone, but mind you, it works great.
By saying thank you, you acknowledge the fact that someone cares enough to take note of you.
If the person means harm, it will surely take him or her aback, and you don't allow him or her to get the most out of the negative feedback.
