How to book a summer holiday home in Skyros, Greece

The Greek Islands are of a great interests and diverse cultures, influenced by their location, at the junction between the East and the West and by the many occupations endured by the Greek people throughout history. For many people a perfect getaway is a vacation on a hot sunny island and Skyros in the Aegean Sea is a great choice. Skyros has some beautiful beaches making them ideal destinations for sunbathing and swimming in the Aegean Sea. Inside the castle there is the Monastery of Agios Georgios, which is thought to have been founded in the 10th century. Animal lovers may like to head to the southeast of Skyros town as this is home to a unique breed of ponies only found on the island. The main villages of the island are the capital, Chora and Linaria, which is a port and both are well worth visiting for the traditional architecture as well as the nightlife.

Summers in Chios are warm and dry with the average temperature in July and August about 27 degrees centigrade, but even June and September average 23-25 centigrade. There is hardly any rain between June and August. December and January can see an average of 78mm of rainfall, but the temperatures in the winter rarely drop into single figures.

Holidaymakers can get to Skyros Island National Airport (SKU) from Athens (ATH) and from Amsterdam (AMS) with Transavia Airlines. Visitors from other countries can get flights to Athens International Airport (ATH) and fly on to Skyros. There are direct flights to Athens from Amsterdam, (AMS) Berlin-Schonefeld (SXF), Brussels (BRU), Dublin (DUB), London-Heathrow (LHW), London-Gatwick (LGW), Madrid (MAD), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) amongst others. On arrival at Skyros visitors can hire a car from rental firms at the airport or there are taxis available outside the airport building.
